today was boring. woke up late. last night slept late. then this morning i was awoken by a call from chris,
"reuben are you coming for rehearsals today?"
i was like "yea, i'm still sleeping now. i'll come down in the afternoon alright?"
and chris was like "oh alright alright. sorry!" chris is such a nice guy. hahaha. :)
went down for a few hours of rehearsals. i think i did better today than at yesterday's rehearsals. partly cos i started to memorise my lines and hence my hands were freer to move around instead of holding the script.
and yesterday i found out that wenjun's brother was in medicine. and he was doing OT2 as well. they looked really similar. and i was like, are you related to wenjun in any way. then he replied with a yea, hes my brother. i was stunned lah. not bad right. my face recognition.
then a few m4s this morning asked me while i was sitting by the side watching the rehearsals for the other scenes, "were you pornthip?" i died lah. haahhahaha. this character's gonna stick for life.. =P
take it up and put it down.

its been ages since i blogged. sounds familiar eh? =X i'm mugging anatomy, ironically, in the central library. its break time now. i'm taking a whiff of fresh air (partly cos i'm learning about the anatomy of lungs) from the notes. sometimes, i wished medicine wasnt so boring. we're FARRRR away from civilisation and choked by toxic *cough*cheeeena*cough* biologists, chemists and physicists from the science fac next door. its plain disgusting. the canteen is brown. the library is grey. why cant YongLooLin get a nice modern classy look to her lecture theatres and libraries too? =(
just yesterday my mum was commenting on the influx of cheeena chinese into singapore. (note to self: revise Fick's Law of diffusion lol). come to think of it. it is SO true. i miss the days when MRT trains were noisy with singaporeans speaking broken english. nowdays, you dont even get to hear broken english. you're bombarded with the qiao4 she2 and the EEEW mandarin of maozedong-descendants. worse still, they outspeak your ipods and snore louder than your grandmother.
central library is above one of the most happening places in NUS. its far far away from the land of doctors and scientists, right smack in the middle of poets, novelists and artyfarty uhh, artists. thank god im far away from chinatown COS THEY NEVER GET MORE THAN B3 FOR GP SO CANNOT COME HERE. muahahaha.
last week and the week before was rather memorable. i had ALOTALOT of fun. last saturday was playhouse, an intra-medicine dramafeste. every year had to put up a play. the m2s put up a chim play on relationships; stories with multiple subplots, m3 some doctor thing, and m4 about primate practice, i.e. doctors back in stone age. didnt catch the m5 play.
I ABSOLUTELY loved the m4 play. it was a play with a beautiful set, testament to all the hardwork by their crew. handpainted rocks made from newspaper and cardboard boxes, a dinosaur egg that fit a human inside, totem poles and huts. IT WAS A VISUAL FEAST. beautiful set. very artistic. and they even made a dragon that could eat humans from an NTUC trolley which i suspect they koped from the nearby cold storage at Holland V. ahhaha.
the script was simple but effective. not to mention the props and the wonderful costumes. they looked really tribal with their umm, leopard print undies (or was it tiger). the cast was strong (ensemble play) with choreography that was simple, yet stunning. i was kinda sad when they didnt win the best play. i mean with all the class spirit and effort put in by the M4s (who are supposedly very busy), surely the judges could have given them a better prize?. but maybe i am biased, cos i didnt catch much of the m2 play.
the m2 script was well written. at least, from what i heard and snippets of lines that were blasted from the backstage speakers. they were
PLAY lines. unlike ours. ours sounded like
SKIT lines. ahhaha. but nvm. i think there was strong acting from the m2s, darius and thomas. in their exploration of human-human relationships, including the ever popular boy-boy relationships.
the m1s (our play) was a good start for the beginning of our 5yearlong Playhouse journey. we were bluffed (okay maybe not bluffed, miscommunicated) to make our play something that was 20-30 minutes long. BUT THE REST OF THE WORLD'S PLAY WAS LIKE 45 MINUTES AND ABOVE?! not fair rite. how to put up a good play in 20-30 minutes?! but ranting aside, it was great experience working with the ppl from our batch.
our script was abt a fillipina maid and a thai worker and her mum and her husband. yours truly was the thai worker. =X it was about how despite having language barriers, they were able to understand the meaning of love, juxtaposed to her employers, who spoke the same language, yet could not communicate effectively. it was peppered with humour, stemming from the fact that i was speaking in a thai accent + bad english i.e. major BAD english (to the point where i nearly died laughing on stage and had to am4 chio3 also) lol.
must really thank the ppl who made it such a wonderful show. the cast:
maria (sheryl) the maid :P. it was definitely UNFORGETTABLE working with you lor. that KISSS will make me forever remember you liao hahaha. =X huiwen and paul, wife and husband. my boss, weilun. and all the other ppl whom i didnt have lines with, but worked with to put up such a commendable performance. the directors and producers, shaun, darren and jiayi, as well as the backstage crew and AMANDA zain, our sounds girl.
we were acting out this scene where pornthip and maria were watching tv in her mum's house. then amanda went to find some Return of the Condor Heroes youtube video filmed eons ago by christopher lee and fann wong. the SUPER UBER CHEESY lines made us cringe and laugh until can die... something about why his arm got cut off and his reply being "even with one arm, i still can hug you". i never knew we could find our favourite Channel 8 drama serials on youtube. hmm. time to go watch my Unbeatables I II and III. lol.
yea. i believe for next year's playhouse, we'll put up a more spectacular performance. We'll get more than just a best supporting actor okay. :) ahahahah. and carry on the tradition of bluffing the m1s to put up a 15-20 min play(skit). lol.
will upload the pics tonite when i get back.
OH. and after that i went out to celebrate halloweeeeeen. was a dead doctor in a labcoat. HAHAHAH. quite fun. got scary pics also. :P BACK TO MUGGING!!
take it up and put it down.
